Barcelona is the best city on Earth, according to the Telegraph. The Catalonian capital topped a shortlist of 50 cities nominated by experts from the travel sector. Researches then ranked the cities on criteria like culture, luxury and safety. Barcelona scored 588 out of a possible 810 points. Its highest scores were for its food, culture, open-air activities and transport. Practicality, history, cleanliness and green space also factored. Sydney came second with 556.
“Barcelona combines everything that is most charming about Mediterranean cities — a relaxed pace, months of endless sunshine, unbeatable food - with the cultural and design clout of almost any city in the cold north,” the study concluded.
The study highlighted Barcelona’s World Heritage Sites, Michelin-starred restaurants and five-star hotels. 2,591 hours of annual sunlight and long wide beaches helped as well!
The study looked beyond Barcelona’s tourist attractions. It also considered the city’s environment, equality, tolerance and safety. The city’s inclusiveness and its safety for LGBTQI+ people won high marks.
